Lynda Hopkins, an organic farmer, small business owner, mother, former community journalist with Sonoma West Publishers and graduate of Stanford University (Bachelor’s Degree in Coastal Land Use & a Master’s Degree in Land Use Policy) is ready to work with the residents of the Fifth District to improve our community. After graduating from Stanford, Lynda and her husband Emmett moved to the Russian River Valley to farm vegetables on the family property where he grew up. They got married, started a family, and began searching for a special place where they could live near the fields and raise their daughters. Lynda and Emmett found that special home just down the road from the farm, in the small town of Forestville.As the owner of Foggy River Farm in the Russian River Valley, Lynda has worked with her husband to grow their small business to supply fresh, locally-grown organic produce to farmers markets throughout Sonoma County, including the Sebastopol Farmers’ Market and West End Farmers’ Market. The farm’s mission is to “grow food that is good for our souls, our bodies, and the land.” Lynda has served the community as: Executive Director, Sonoma County Farm Trails

Member, Leadership Circle of Community Alliance with Family Farmers (North Coast Chapter)  Lynda is committed to a collaborative partnership with local residents to address important economic, environmental, social justice and other quality-of-life issues as a member of the Board of Supervisors.

Lauren Mendelsohn is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Omar Figueroa. For the past several years, Ms. Mendelsohn has been active in the drug policy reform movement as well as other progressive and humanitarian efforts. She is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP), an international non-profit organization working to end the “War on Drugs.” She is passionate about cannabis, civil liberties, and science. Ms. Mendelsohn earned her J.D. from the University of California, Irvine School of Law in 2016 and her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland in 2013. While in law school, she was part of the Community Economic Development Clinic and International Justice Clinic. She also helped launch a student-run needle exchange program and assisted with monthly expungement clinics at the local legal aid society. Ms. Mendelsohn was a member of many student organizations, including the Intellectual Property and Cyberlaw Society, the Biotechnology and Global Health Policy Club, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, and the National Lawyer’s Guild. Ms. Mendelsohn is a proud member of the California State Bar, the Sonoma County Bar Association, the UCI Law Alumni Association, the University of Maryland Alumni Association, SSDP’s Sensible Society, California NORML, Americans for Safe Access, and the ACLU.
